This cemetery is located next to the Wellington-Napier railway line, opposite the intersection of Carruthers Street and Knorpe Street in Otane. It was closed after the last burial in 1903. Over time, the headstones and their surroundings deteriorated and became hazardous. Many wooden headstones were destroyed by grass fires sparked by passing steam trains. A memorial and a board listing the known burials have been erected at the Kaikora Cemetery site.
